What is the best way to ease into LinkedIn even if it has been awhile?
If you’ve been thinking about updating your LinkedIn profile but haven’t found the time, then this is your moment.
LinkedIn is one of the most powerful tools for women leaders, entrepreneurs, and board candidates to build visibility and open doors. Yet, it’s also the platform many of us set aside when work gets busy.
In this week’s Women Leaders on the Move podcast, host Natalie Benamou talks with Brenda Meller, a LinkedIn expert who knows exactly how to help leaders get traction without spending hours online.
What are 3 Best LinkedIn Practices to try today?
1. Where should you start? The One Thing Everyone Overlooks: Your Headshot and Banner
Before you post a single word, your visuals are already speaking for you. Don't overlook your headshot.
“Your photo and banner are your first impression and it tells your story before anyone reads your headline.”
She recommends updating both your headshot and header banner to reflect who you are today. Not a photo from years ago, and not a generic skyline background.
Your headshot should look approachable and professional, and your banner should align with your brand, whether that’s your business, your board expertise, or your leadership focus.
These are small changes that creates an immediate sense of trust and credibility.
2. How Much Time is needed? Engage Intentionally—Just 15 Minutes a Day
You don’t need to spend hours online to build momentum. In fact, Brenda shared that consistency beats volume every time.
“Fifteen focused minutes a day is enough to stay top of mind. Comment, react, and connect with people who matter most to your work.”
Here’s what to do with those 15 minutes:
✅ Comment thoughtfully on two or three posts from people you admire or want to connect with.
✅ React to updates that align with your values and vision.
✅ Share or repost something that adds value to your network.
The key is to be genuine. Remember LinkedIn is about conversations.
3. How can you avoid pressure posting?
When it comes to posting, Brenda’s advice is simple:
“You don’t have to post every day. Posting once or twice a week—when you have something meaningful to share—is more than enough.”
Focus on stories, insights, or lessons learned. Celebrate others. Offer your perspective on a challenge or an industry shift. When your voice feels authentic, your reach naturally grows.
